Welcome to My New gender sterotypes Blog

This add is to try to end the stigma of gender roles. One gender stereotype is that women can not be in leadership roles. I have heard the the statement, “Women are too emotional to be in leadership roles.” Which is one of the stereotypes this add is trying to end.

This ad counters the gender stereotype by using what is sold by this company. Make up is predominately bought by women, so this ad is giving women confidence to pursue a leadership role. This ad is trying to get the attention of men, by stating that women are capable of being in leadership roles.

This ad suggest that only women clean. This gender stereotype has changed over the years. Not only women clean. This ad is defining the perception of gender roles.

The only way to counter this stereotype is to include dads also. Everyone cleans not just moms or dads. This add brings back the gender roles that only women clean.

Gender roles is a set of expectations for appropriate behavior that a culture typical assigns to an individual based on his or her biological sex. (Floyd, 2017) This ad depicts a women weightlifting, which I thought was inclusive since majority of men weight lift, shopping bags. This is a stereotype that women only do the shopping.

It tried to balance it out by using and activity that men typical do but then shows a women in heels and workout cloths lifting shopping bags. This ad depicts a role that is usually assigned to women.

This ad recreated another ad from a time when gender roles were well defined. This add counters the gender roles by instead of the women serving a beer she is able to enjoy one with a man.

Gender roles in the 60s defined women as stay at home moms and servants to the man who works. These roles have changed because now women work and provide for their families just as men do.

In communication, sexual orientation influences behavior the same as gender roles. Sexual orientation describes the sex or sexes to which an individual is sexually attracted. (Floyd, 2017, p.55) Social media and other forms of viewing define how people’s sexual orientation are defined, which should not be the case because everyone are not the same. This is why this ad is part of the gender stereotype.

This ad shows what the perception of this stereotype.
